CP-X 1×2 multimode coupler is built to withstand the harsh conditions of aerospace environments, including vibrations, shocks, and high temperatures. It exhibits high mode insensitivity, is mostly achromatic, and ensures excellent stability in its coupling ratio over a broad wavelength range and over modal fluctuations.
The CP-X coupler supports bidirectional operation, allowing light to travel in both directions through all ports. This enables them to function as either combiners or splitters for optical signals moving in any direction through the coupler. It is also well-suited for round-trip configuration, which is commonly used in fiber-optic sensing, reflection-based systems, and optical test setups. This configuration makes it possible to separate transmitted and reflected signals.
This passive component is available with 50/125 µm or 62.5/125 µm graded-index fibers, as well as 105/125 µm step-index low-OH launch fibers.
High-performance fiber options are also offered, including High Temperature Acrylate (HTA) and Radiation-Hardened (HTA RH) versions.
The CP-X operates over the 532–1625 nm wavelength range, depending on the fiber used.
Although compatible with all connector types at each port, in-house aerospace/military-qualified FCXtreme® or NANOXtreme® connectors are recommended for aerospace applications, particularly when paired with APC polish terminations to minimize back-reflections.
This ruggedized coupler comes in a blue metal housing and offers a choice of thermal-resistant, low-outgassing protective jackets, including 0.9 mm PEEK tubing, 1 mm stainless-steel tubing, or 1.8 mm LTCX cable.
