Choosing the right protection is essential to maximize the benefits and properties of an optical fiber, while protecting it from threats related to the application environment.
In an aerospace environment, the fiber-optic cable can be exposed to very extreme conditions compared to terrestrial use: large variations in temperature, pressure differentials, frost, cosmic radiation, space vacuum, vibrations, and shocks…
SEDI-ATI has therefore designed the LTCX-1.8 mm simplex cable to meet the demanding requirements of the aerospace industry.
This loose-tube-structure cable consists of an ETFE outside layer and polymer tubing. It undergoes thermal cycling to stabilize it over the temperature ranges relevant to the customer’s application (e.g., -50°C/+125°C or -10°C/+165°C).
The LTCX-1.8 mm can then absorb expansion differences caused by temperature variations.
This protects against breakage and attenuation in the optical fibers. In addition, it withstands vibrations and shocks. Finally, its polymer materials were selected to make it resistant to radiation and greatly reduce the risk of outgassing.
This cable has been successfully tested for tensile strength, torsion, and bending.
The LTCX-1.8 mm cable has an inner diameter of 0.6 mm. It is therefore compatible with various types of fibers with a 250 μm coating (SM, GI50, GI125, Launch 105, rad-resistant and/or temperature-resistant fibers).
